Water tower to be repainted by June

As published in The Erin Advocate

The repainting of the Erin water tower, which was postponed last year, is now planned for completion in June according to Water Superintendent Frank Smedley.

Council agreed to his request to proceed with the project, even though the budget has not been approved yet. At their April 15 meeting, they approved a $222,948 contract with Jacques Daoust Coatings Management Inc., an experienced firm that submitted the lowest of six tenders.

The project had been approved for 2013, but was not completed due to issues with getting the tender completed, said Smedley. The proposed 2014 budget includes up to $250,000 for recoating, $22,500 for engineering and site supervision, and $20,000 for health and safety upgrades.

The project includes cleaning and painting the interior of the tower, as well as painting the exterior. Once the job is in progress, the public will be notified to conserve water until it is completed.
